TRIA President, Rick Olson, shares his insights and technical updates on current projects in the pipeline as of July 2024:

Tile Roofing Energy Cost Savings (TRECS) Study
We are excited to share more progress and developments on our TRECS study as we aim to validate the energy-saving attributes of tile roofing systems compared to other other products. Currently, we have heat stations shipped to our data collection sites in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, and Ohio. We have our station set up in Rialto, California, and are in the early stages of beginning to receive data here. We are hopeful that our stations in the sunbelt region will up and running within the next month. 

TRIA Installation Manuals
The Tile Roofing Industry Alliance (TRI) is pleased to announce the issuance of our new updated CONCRETE AND CLAY ROOF TILE INSTALLATION MANUAL, dated March 2024 that carries the IAPMO code approval Uniform ES-ER-2015. The new manual provides updated color drawings and the latest ASCE-7-16 and ASCE 7-22 wind uplift design criteria to be compliant with the latest IRC/IBC and CBC code requirements.
The manual is free to download here and is recognized by our member companies as their manufacturing installation guides. We will be creating an online “Print On Demand” in the near future for those wishing to obtain a hard copy of the manual.

Technical Bulletins
Next up on TRIA’s agenda is reviewing and revising our Technical Bulletins to ensure they are updated with that latest codes, procedures, and data as of 2024. We are also working on a new technical bulletin on “How To Install Birdstop/Eave Closures At Valley Terminations” that we aim to have available in the coming weeks. This has become a hot topic in Florida where a building official has recently red-tagged a project until there is an industry recommendation. 
TRIA Certification Trainings
TRI Alliance is excited to announce that we will be hosting our very first certification training opportunity for the new 2024 edition of our Concrete and Clay Roof Tile Installation guide via a virtual webinar on August 14th. We are currently updating our presentation to reflect changes from our new guide.
We are also partnering with ABC Supply Co. Florida in August for a week-long training event at four different ABC locations across the south Florida area.
