Tile Roofing Industry Alliance Lobbyist, Craig Brightup, has provided the latest government relations update and activities on the following:

Roofing Day in DC/TRIA Fly-In
Attached at the end of this post is the most recent itinerary for NRCA’s April 8-9 Roofing Day in DC activities.  You can register and get a room at www.nrca.net/roofingday and with TRIA’s sponsorship, promo code RD2025 waives the registration fee.  TRIA’s Fly-In is held in conjunction with Roofing Day and starts with a dinner on Monday, April 7, followed by April 8 meetings on Capitol Hill until Roofing Day formally begins at 4 pm.  There will also be TRIA evening functions on April 8 & 9 and a meeting at the National Association of Home Builders the morning of April 10.

Nominees for DOL/OSHA
Former Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer’s (R-OR) confirmation hearing in the Health, Education, Labor & Pensions (HELP) Committee for Sec. of Labor will be on Feb. 19 and her pro-union positions will generate tough questions from committee Republicans.  However, President Trump’s nomination of Keith Sonderling for Deputy Sec. of Labor has been well received by Senate Republicans and business groups are heartened by the Feb. 12 nomination of Dave Keeling for Asst. Sec. of Labor for OSHA.   Keeling is supported by the pro-business Coalition for Workplace Safety per the attached letter to the HELP Committee and many of us know Dave from his stint as Chairman of the U.S. Chamber’s OSHA Subcommittee.

Regulatory Reform and DOGE
On Jan. 31, President Trump launched a massive 10-to-1 deregulation initiative by Executive Order which requires that whenever an agency promulgates a new rule, regulation, or guidance, it must identify at least 10 existing rules, regulations, or guidance documents to be repealed.  Also, despite legal wrangling about whether Elon Musk’s Dept. of Government Efficiency (DOGE) can access Treasury Dept. records, DOGE has been given the green light to access records at the Dept. of Labor (DOL).

Corporate Transparency Act Still Suspended
Despite the U.S. Supreme Court’s Jan. 23 ruling that CTA reporting requirements were back on while a legal challenge in a Texas federal court plays out, Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) quickly stated CTA’s requirements are still suspended based on another national injunction from another federal district court in Texas.  TRIA signed a letter to the White House urging the CTA be delayed indefinitely.

OSHA Heat Rule
On Jan. 13, TRIA submitted the attached comments to OSHA’s proposed Heat rule recommending withdrawal.  The Construction Industry Safety Coalition’s comments on which TRIA is listed are also critical of the rule.

House Meetings
On Jan. 3, Craig Brightup attended the following “open houses” the first day of the new Congress:  House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY), and Reps. Nick Langworthy (R-NY), Mike Lawler (R-NY) and Mary Miller (R-IL).  He also attended a swearing-in event for newly elected Sen. Tim Sheehy (R-MT) and an event with Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-VA) on Jan. 22 to thank her core supporters.
